It’s no easy task travelling to the mountains, they’re inland, and the roads around them are long and windy. Climbing them on foot is a tiring task and climbing them by rope exhausting, but once you reach the peak, well there’s no other feeling like it. You see the world from a completely different point of view, the world is below you and though from that high up it might be that none of the world can see you, but you feel like you can see the whole of the world.

Set halfway up a mountaintop is this incredibly charming wooden chalet, Mineral Lodge, a feat of architecture and design, as well as a welcoming and warm guesthouse. Here the owners are very hands on, cooking up the meals and advising their guests on where to go and what to explore; their suggestions will certainly not disappoint. Hearty breakfasts are served on a convivial table for twelve where the guests can share a meal together like being part of a team. The two dining rooms face the garden and have bookshelves from floor to ceiling. The open plan kitchen boasts all the newest facilities and is sleek and modern. The lounges are equipped with soft and plush sofas, surrounded by glass windows that display a panoramic view. Glass panels are found throughout the lodge radiating a light and giving a spacious feeling, the most is made of the mountain views and glass that displays a view of the inside of the lodge allows you to appreciate the traditional wood and stone materials that were used to built the chalet. The older stone structure belonged to a castle that once resided there. The lodge is the perfect mix of old fashioned materials with modern design, evident from the exterior of the lodge itself and its eclectic windows and sections that jut out of the mountaintop.

The bedrooms are furnished contemporarily; the colour scheme is neutral with splashes of colour with chairs, throws and rugs. Whether you choose an attic bedroom or a sun bedroom both are cosy, comfortable and around 25m² in size, they consist of a large bed, small living space that overlooks the mountains and a bathroom with an Italian shower. Light streams in from a wall of windows at one end of the room. Sun bedrooms have a small terrace and face the south to make the most of the sunlight, the attic bedrooms are nestled in the roof of the lodge with some stunning surrounding views. Bathrooms are designed to reflect the outdoors with sinks shaped like rocks, and wall murals of trees on the smooth tiles. Although the superior bedrooms are the perfect haven in which to relax, where you’ll really want to relax is in the lodge’s sauna and jacuzzi, perfect for relaxing those aching muscles after a day out on the mountains.
