Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort & Spa ★★★★★

After our considerably lengthy journey, our bitter, weary moods were washed away as quickly as footprints in the sand when we arrived at the Outrigger Resort. A warm welcome from a delightful, affable member of the concierge and a glimpse at our spectacular surroundings was all it took. Our first look at our room gave us soppy smiles that weren’t wiped from our faces until, heartbroken, we bid our goodbyes to the staff and fellow guests that had made our stay feel like home.

The rooms are airy and generously proportioned, with unobstructed views of the beach and the Indian Ocean beyond. They’re fairly simply decorated in white, sandy neutrals, and accents in zesty lime green. The cool tiled floor and floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with light; the bathroom, too, was spectacular: with a vast walk-in shower and a tub for two.

After a restorative soak and a cocktail at the poolside bar, I aimed to the exquisite Navasana Spa by the sea, to choose a treatment from the extensive menu, while my partner headed to the boathouse on the beach to try his hand at kite-surfing, The Outrigger’s specialty water sport. There’s something for everyone at the resort, with the Kids Club and Pool keeping the little ones entertained and away from the tranquil, poolside loungers; the quad-biking and deep-sea fishing excursions are suited to bigger kids.

For dinner, guests have a choice of four restaurants, and a variety of bars. Thanks to the All Inclusive formula, we were able to indulge in exquisite dishes. Much as we love glamorous dining, the rustic charm of the waterfront restaurant exquisite fresh serving crab and seafood won us over: a fisherman delivers the fresh fish every day at the jetty, before it makes its way to your plate.
