Hotel Indigo Barcelona ★★★★

It’s hard to get anymore central! The hotel is situated just seconds from the grand shopping street, Passeig de Gràcia, and just a short walk from the city’s main square, Plaça Catalunya, and most famous street, La Rambla, which cuts straight through the old town to the port. With the hotel being in the newer Eixample neighbourhood, however, you are guaranteed a comfortable and luxurious stay, away from the noise of the busy historic old town, Ciutat Vella.

The hotel’s façade boasts Barcelona’s classic Modernist style, with the typical wrought iron balconies and an entrance of large and detailed wooden doors alluding to the high ceilings within. The building blends with its surroundings, while much of the interior is clearly inspired by Gaudí, the famous Catalan architect. The reception is luminous with unique and clever indigo lights, and colourful wall mural. The lobby is also vibrant, and has curved sofas, coloured cushions, varying wallpaper and exotic plants. I had now, without a doubt, stepped into the exotic world of Indigo.

In our Deluxe Room, we were once again met with bright, colourful space with a fantastic patterned wall mural. The hotel was well equipped with the amenities you would expect of a four-star hotel, and we even had a small balcony overlooking the inner courtyard and tranquil pool area.

Walking around the hotel, I especially appreciated the ceilings, where streams of light broke through the funky curves, and the smooth marble floors. The DOQ restaurant and cocktail bar were simple but yet full of visual flavour, continuing the Gaudí theme of the hotel with soft red chairs and curved lights. I looked forward to trying some tapas here later on in the evening, or maybe even indulging in a cheeky fruity cocktail in the funky and chic bar.

In the mornings a colourful array of fruits, cheeses, meats and sweet pastries greeted us as well as the smiling and happy staff. And we were more than happy each morning to take our time filling our stomachs up in preparation for a new day exploring this effervescent city.
