Our room is a muted tapestry of colour and texture. An oasis bathed in natural light, I am tempted to spend my days there, and the beautiful marble bath does not assuage this feeling. Extricating myself from its enticing allure, we roam the property in a fit of wanderlust, stopping to admire the heated pool, the hotel garden, and the impressively verdant park beyond, the green lung of this exciting city.
Venturing out of the retreat, we take advantage of the free shuttle to Piazza di Spagna. Rome is a walking city, filled with nooks and crannies that hold the secrets of its past. A crossroads of history and culture, I go where the cobblestone streets lead me, and am struck by the ruins that rise unexpectedly at almost every turn, the regal fountains, and vibrant street life. To perfectly end a day of sightseeing we enjoy a Spritz in the Aldrovandi Villa Borghese*****’s stylish American Bar.
Grateful to return each day to our own private palace we look forward to dining in serenity, far from the bustle of the Roman streets. Two Michelin stars in hand, the chef has put together a menu of the freshest ingredients that are the hallmark of Italian cuisine. Meanwhile, the Aldrovandi Villa Borghese***** spa is one of the many highlights of my stay.
Rising above and beyond our wildest hopes for a romantic getaway, Aldrovandi Villa Borghese***** will be just one more reason why a piece of my heart will always remain in the Eternal City.

- Visit Aventine Hill for a look through the Aventine keyhole. You will see the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica rising up at the end of a tree-lined avenue.
- Sant’Eustachio Café may have made it into the guidebooks, but locals continue to stake their claim to what they consider the best coffee in Rome. Reputedly a best kept secret, Located near the Pantheon, it’s a nice stop off during your tour of the city.
- NO.AU is ‘knowhow’ in phonetic transcription, and that they do. They certainly know how to charm visitors with their artsy bohemian space, hidden in the back alleys of the Centro Storico. Stop in for an Italian craft beer and one of their small snacks, like hand-cut chips. They also offer more substantial plates, all sourced from small local organic producers.
Piazza di Montevecchio 16a, 00186 - San Clemente is a little publicised gem, a medieval and early-Renaissance church with frescoes by Masolino. In the basement, you can view the remains of a second-century apartment block and a shrine to Mithras. The water from an ancient sewer runs through here, completing the experience.

Aldrovandi Villa Borghese ***** is perched atop the Pincian Hill alongside the beautiful and famous Villa Borghese Gardens, in a chic and posh area in the centre of Rome.
BY PLANE
The main airport serving Rome is Rome Fiumicino-Leonardo da Vinci Airport, 35.0 km (21.7 mi) southwest of the city centre. Some low-cost airlines however, notably Ryanair, fly into Rome Ciampino Airport, 12 km (7.5 mi) south-southeast of the city centre.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The closest Tram and Bus stop is Aldrovandi served by tram lines 2, 3 and 19 and by night bus line N10.
The closest metro is Flaminio, at 15 minutes’ walk: Follow Via Alberto Ferrero around the bend, take a right onto Via di Villa Ruffo then left onto Viale Giorgio Washington. Continue straight and at the square take the second left onto Viale Folke Bernadotte. Cut straight across the car park and turn right onto Viale delle Belle. Follow this road round the bend to the right, onto the road for the hotel, Via Ulisse Aldrovandi.
A little further away is Spanga metro, right next to the Spanish Steps, to and from which the hotel runs a courtesy car service.
