The Raithwaite Estate ★★★★

Luxurious country retreat on one of England’s most spectacular stretches of coastline

By Edward Fairbairn, VeryChic correspondent
Whitby is the quintessential English seaside town. Built on both banks of the River Esk, its winding old-fashioned alleyways weave their way around a quaint harbour, some pretty promenades and two twin piers which jut out into the North Sea, all overlooked by the crumbling clifftop ruins of the 7th century abbey. The only problem at the Raithwaite Estate is finding the time to venture into the town centre and enjoy it all! Situated just outside Whitby, along the dramatic stretch of coastline between the town and the lovely coastal village of Sandsend, the estate covers over 100 acres and provides a luxurious setting for a seaside retreat. With two restaurants offering some fine local cuisine, a fantastic spa and a great range of country pursuits from mountain biking to shooting to try out on the estate and nearby, it is hard to tear yourself away!
