Abbaye de La Bussière ★★★★

The Burgundy region can justifiably claim to have some of the most beautifully scenic countryside in France. The 12th century abbey which houses the hotel harks back to Burgundy’s medieval heyday, and it has since been expertly renovated and transformed into a luxurious, relaxing four-star hotel. Never is this more apparent than while you are taking a stroll around the extensive botanical gardens, home to over 50 tree varieties and countless fragrant and brightly coloured flowers. While wandering around, you can admire the immaculate topiary and gurgling fountains, take a rowing boat out onto the ornamental lake or mingle with the grazing ponies on the pristine lawns. There are also a few historic outbuildings scattered around, including the crypt, wine press, dovecot and mill.
