Relais Saint Jacques ★★★★

Beautiful boutique hotel in Paris's famous Latin Quarter.

Very good
8.2 /10
By Ella Klyachitsky, VeryChic correspondent
“The Latin Quarter” evokes a sense of the City of Lights at its most bohemian. So called due to the use of Latin within the Sorbonne, the 5th and 6th districts have always been synonymous with the intelligentsia that have made Paris their home for centuries. So when my friend and I, who shared an obsession with Satre, wearing black and strong coffee in a teenage appreciation for things French and existential were heading to Paris, Relais Saint Jacques **** in the Latin Quarter was our first choice.

  • Au Lapin Agile is a little cabaret theatre and bar in Montmartre. This is where budding and broke artists Picasso and Matisse frequented, paying for their tab with paintings. It looks like it hasn't changed much since then, but that's a good thing.

  • The Shakespeare and Company Bookstore is everything a secondhand bookshop should be. It has ties to the literati of Paris, a long enigmatic history, shelves which groan with the best titles in literature, ramshackle charm, and a habit of helping up and coming writers. 37 rue de la Bucherie, 75005, Paris, France.
  • Saint Germain-des-Pres may be overshadowed by nearby Notre Dame for obvious reasons, but by virtue of being the oldest abbey in Paris and being the final resting place of René Descartes, it's certainly worth a visit. 3 Place Saint-Germain des Prés, 75006 Paris, France.
