I am coming to Berlin with a big appetite. I want to show off as much as possible of it to my man, who has never been and to whom I have long been boasting of its fantastic and diverse charms. We have one long weekend and a lot of ground to cover so I have approached the planning with the following question: Where can I find a hotel that offers the suitable luxury for a romantic mini-break, the supreme comfort to sustain our hectic schedule, the truly central location to give us easy access to the entire city and the perfect price for the whole package? Wanting to make the most of every moment we have, we've opted for the early check-in made available to guests and arrive to be welcomed genially into the sleek, calm ambiance of this simple yet stylish hotel. Everything about it breathes well being and unpretentious high quality with the very grounded and straight-forward intention of offering the utmost of comfort with the least amount of hassle and fanfare. It's very Berlin. The clean lined modernity coupled with a very warm heart and friendly atmosphere.

Our room is bright and serene with a large, cosy bed, wide windows and a classically contemporary feel with all the necessary amenities including a slick television, air conditioning, safe, minibar and free WiFi. A gleaming bathroom with shower and a heated towel rail that actually works – a rare miracle in my experience and a sure sign of the good care and excellent standards that leave nothing to chance in order for its guests to feel as well looked after as possible. In fact this fantastic service and friendly efficiency is rapidly becoming my favourite thing about the hotel and as our stay unfolds, this impression is reinforced time and again. Be it to give you local advice, answer any queries or carefully prepare an allergy-friendly meal to your requested specifications at the hotel's delicious Rienäcker Restaurant, every possible requirement or query is met with professional proficiency and good will.

With such a supportive and restorative base, my love and I storm the city on a whirlwind adventure from North to South and East to West, from the old-world, family oriented charm of Charlottenburg to the funky creative hub of Kreuzberg. On Sunday we spend a leisurely morning and afternoon visiting the flea markets in and around Mauerpark. After a great lunch in one of the many cool little cafés, we walk down through Mitte, along the river Spree and across the beautiful Tiergarten to our safe-haven nestled just behind it. We have walked for miles, as we have every day, using the same secret recipe: A quiet supper as we unwind in the sedate district surrounding the hotel and then a deep, peaceful sleep followed by an excellent, hearty breakfast in preparation for another big bite of Berlin. Simple but satisfying and wonderfully effective, just like the brilliant Golden Tulip Hotel!
