Named after the magnificent Roman built stone aqueduct, the Résidence Club Pont du Gard lies in a picturesque setting. The UNESCO protected site boasts 165 hectares of land, as well as the dramatic Gardon Gorge.
Arriving at the Residence Club **** MMV Pont du Gard, you’ll be greeted by a glimpse of the astounding feat of Roman engineering, even before you’ve seen your apartment. The three level and 50 meter high structure, which at first glimpse looks like the shell of an old coliseum, sits just steps away from your accommodation. Head inside your air-conditioned and sleek apartment and you will be taken aback by the spacious, stylish Provençal-inspired interiors, as well as the vistas from the generous balcony, which comes equipped with comfortable garden furniture. From here you can get a better view of the bridge itself, which is not only a technical masterpiece, which allows the aqueduct of Nîmes to cross over the River Gard, but also a site to marvel at.
When you’ve settled in, perhaps take an amble over the bridge to take a closer look, before heading back to your new home and fixing yourself a snack in the fully equipped kitchen. You can also feel comfortable in the knowledge that the dishwasher will do the work for you, whilst you’re checking the latest updates on the apartment Wi-Fi. Later on you’ll find a spot of karaoke downstairs to keep you entertained throughout the evening.
Start your first full day with a dip in the heated swimming pool, while admiring the views, before taking a leisurely breakfast back at your apartment. When you’re ready, make your way to the Pont du Gard’s visitor’s centre and museum to find out more about the ancient Romans and the major part that the aqueduct played in supplying the town’s population and public fountains.
Later, get to know your local area by taking one of the Résidence Club’s bicycles out for a spin, taking in the fresh country air as you pass through the scenic landscape of rural France.
Not satisfied by this Roman feat of architecture? You can always take a day trip to nearby Nîmes, which is home to a variety of Roman buildings, a temple dating back two thousand years and an impressive amphitheatre. Step in and out of the town’s museums and markets for a dazzling display of culture and delights for all the senses. While here, why not pick up some local produce such as aubergines, some juicy bell peppers, courgettes and other fresh vegetables from the region to prepare in your own kitchen? You could even be adventurous and make a regional dish such as ratatouille or a salad Niçoise. Nîmes is also well known for its production of denim, otherwise known as serge de Nîmes, which was the attire of farm workers in the area.
After busy morning of sight-seeing, head back to the Residence Club and enjoy the luxury of the Ô Pure Spa, which boasts a hammam, hot tub, relaxation beds, sauna and even a herbal tea room. Whilst chilling in the spa, your children can be burning their energy in the Kids’ Club, featuring a wide range of arts, craft and themed activities to keep them busy and entertained throughout their stay.
Laid back and peaceful, your stay in your very own apartment to do exactly as you please, will make for an ideal break.
