Melville Castle ★★★★
Melville Castle, Gilmerton Road
EH18 1AP
Midlothian (Edinburgh)
United Kingdom
Melville Castle **** sits among woods and golf greens, just 8 miles south of the City of Edinburgh, near the North Esk River in the area of Midlothian.
Edinburgh International Airport is situated around 14 miles (22km) to the west of the hotel. As Scotland’s busiest Airport, direct flights can be found from many of Europe’s main cities, such as:
- From the UK: From other major cities in the UK including London, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff & Belfast, flights can be found with the following airlines British Airways, EasyJet, CityJet and Flybe.
- From Ireland: Aer Lingus fly direct from Dublin and Cork and Ryanair also fly from Dublin.
- From Germany: EasyJet offer flights from several cities in Germany, including Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. Lufthansa also offer flights from Frankfurt.
- From the Netherlands: KLM and EasyJet provide direct flights from Amsterdam.
- From Sweden, Denmark, Norway: SAS and Norwegian fly direct from Stockholm and Oslo. EasyJet, SAS and Norwegian all fly direct from Copenhagen.
- From France: Air France and EasyJet offer flights from Paris. Flights can be found from some other cities with the following airlines EasyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair.
Another option, is to find a connecting flight from a London airport.
-By taxi: The most convenient method of reaching the hotel, you’ll find a taxi rank just outside of the terminal. The journey takes around 20 minutes and should cost around £25-30.
- By public transport: The most economic route, although I twill take longer. First take the Airport Bus direct to Edinburgh city centre. From there, take the number 3 bus from Princes Street, which will take you to the gates of the castle’s driveway. It should take approximately 1 hour, and is not recommended for those with lots of luggage.
- By car: Follow signs onto the Edinburgh City Bypass A8 and follow it eastbound. Exit at Gilmerton Junction and follow the road signs for Eskbank. The gates to Melville Castle will appear on your right hand side about 1km from the bypass slip road.
Edinburgh has two train stations, Waverly and Haymarket. We recommend arriving at Waverly Station in the heart of the city as it is the main station (with full facilities, shops and an Information Centre), and from where you can take the number 3 bus to the hotel. You may otherwise take a taxi the remaining distance.
From within the UK trains can be found and booked via National Rail. International trains to the UK, which can be booked with companies such as Eurostar or Thalys, arrive at London St. Pancras International Station, from the attached King’s Cross Station, direct trains can be found to Edinburgh.
From Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and French bank holidays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Local call charges may apply.
