Le Château de Sable ★★★★

My sister had been through a bit of a tough time, and I decided drastic action was needed. We have so many happy memories in Brittany from when we were young, so when I heard about this new hotel, Le Chateau de Sable ****, close to Brest, I was happy to have the excuse to insist on taking her away for a long weekend.

Le Château de Sable is a modern building which uses wood, glass and plenty of clever design to create a place that feels open and in harmony with its beautiful natural surroundings. We were greeted by warm, friendly staff and who showed us to our room, which immediately enveloped us in a peaceful atmosphere. Ubiquitous light wood and white fabrics created a calming aesthetic which seemed to facilitate relaxation, as did the gorgeous view of the rugged coast line and the sea-sky horizon. I knew my sister needed a few things - walks on the beach, massages, good food and good wine. All of those things were in abundance and available to the highest standard here. We just loved the surroundings and would go and explore the pretty fishing ports, woodlands, charming villages and the long stretches of sandy beach with seagulls soaring and waves rushing in.

Both of us were impressed by the depth of knowledge of the spa therapists at the hotel. Ayurvedic therapy focuses on the healing and integration of the body and mind, and was just what my sister needed. I treated myself to a session too, I mean, who doesn’t need a bit of fine tuning now and then? Between treatment sessions and hours steaming ourselves into deep relaxation, we both felt like we'd had some deep knots unwound.

In line with the hotel's ethos, the food at Le Château de Sable focuses on nourishment, purity and environmental integrity. But wow, was it delicious too! The restaurant also has incredible sea views and an airy, light ambience. Le Château de Sable was just what the doctor ordered. Not just for my sister, but for nature too.
