After a long drive through the pine trees, in the heart of the Volcans d’Auvergne Natural Regional Park, you will come to an ecolodge that could almost be standing at the end of the world. On the banks of a lake, incredibly remote, it feels as if time stands still, to be replaced by absolute calm. After taking in the sight of the lake for a moment, you turn to face the big old farmhouse (three hundred years old) that has been tastefully renovated to house a rather eccentric hotel. Inside, the minimalistic and pretty interiors are perfectly balanced and harmonious. A slightly eclectic atmosphere is created by objects brought back from the owner’s travels. With a restaurant serving delicious food, the Instants d’Absolu Ecolodge & Spa is a place of simplicity and warmth. A charming, soothing establishment.
And the surroundings are quite simply magical: natural and wild. The view over the lake is wonderful. Every season (or perhaps every moment) offers a new, beautiful image -captured during one of the outdoor workshops organised by the hotel. Other workshops include expert introductions to botany, bird watching, weather forecasting, geology and volcanism - guided visits that really enrich your stay without ever feeling forced. Closely in tune with the seasons, the programme of activities at the Instants d’Absolu is adapted throughout the year. In the summer, the bird watching around the lake is particularly impressive and during autumn you can go on the lookout for deer.
After long walks in the forest, we would retire to our temporary home by the lake to read in the peace and tranquillity of our cosy Junior Suite, or in the snug corner of the lounge. Both offer lovely views over the beautiful natural landscapes outside. Later on, you can indulge in a relaxing massage at the hotel spa. In the evening, you can tuck into the refined, original dishes prepared by the chef with local products, served on the terrace or beside the fire. Discovering the authentic flavours of this part of the world is part of the Ecolodge experience. Salers beef, peas from Planèze and delicious Cantal cheese all feature on the healthy, delicious menu.
For me, this was a holiday that was perfect in every way. Seven days of complete escape at the Ecolodge & Spa, disconnecting from the outside world to leave feeling completely refreshed and reinvigorated.
