Venice is Venice, smoulderingly romantic, the whole world comes out to play on its aquatic streets. Imagine heady nights stealing kisses in a gondola or days gazing up in awe at the basilica of Piazza San Marco and wandering through the beautiful old town, and it is right here, in its heart, that you find the Duodo Palace. An exclusive haven of luxury and refined antique atmosphere to make your stay as romantic and decadent as can be.
I want somewhere really special, and so it is at the Duodo Palace Hotel that I have decided to lay my hat. Actually, given the blazing sunshine I might just keep my hat firmly on my head as I glide along the canals, just as I had imagined. To arrive like this, right to the hotel's doorstep and to alight at its private berthing area, couldn't be more perfect. I feel rather like a film star and make a mental note to go shopping in the nearby famous Calle Larga XXII Marzo for suitably large Audrey Hepburn-style sunglasses.
Our exceptionally attentive and warm welcome has me smiling all the way to our room and upon entering I am enchanted all over again. Complete with original details from the 17th Century building, it is large and airy, with a classic Venetian décor tempered by a fresh contemporary chic and modern comforts.
While I happily keep writing the script in my head for my very own classic movie set in Venice, my partner is busily making an inventory of the facilities in our room. He is delighted by the flat screen television, free Wi-Fi, not to mention our all-marble bathroom that boasts a gorgeous bathtub. I, in turn, am delighted with the sumptuous, rich materials, antique furnishings and cosy details such as our fluffy dressing gowns. But what most captivates us is the spectacular view over the rooftops of Venice – we have the entire city at our feet and possibly its most magical quarter as our local address, with the Piazza San Marco and Teatro La Fenice just around the corner. What could be more idyllic than this?
The answer comes immediately in the form of our complimentary welcome drinks, which we choose to take in the bar downstairs before setting off, tipsy and joyful, into the city of romance. It would be difficult for me to dislike Venice in any given circumstances and yet this setting and majestically magical retreat within such a fantastic location, has ensured I enjoy it more than ever before!

BY PLANE
Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), is located on the Italian mainland around 8 km / 5 mi north of Venice.
The airport is well served, and receives flights from many capitals and other major cities across Europe.
TO THE HOTEL
• Bus: the no.5 Aerobus, departs every 15 minutres to Piazzale Roma terminal in the city centre, taking around 30 to 45 minutes, while the pricier ATVO blue bus does the journey in just 20 minutes. From there onwards the city is pedestrianised and it is a 25 minute walk to the hotel.
• Water bus: the Alilaguna water buses (vaporettos) operate to several places in Venice including Piazza San Marco.
• Water taxi: water taxis are a very very expensive option, but can fit a maximum of ten people and can be worthwhile if sharing the cost.
