When Augustus Caesar died he was deified and became one of the gods that resided on Mount Olympus (the same as the Greek gods.) But every now again he feels a jab of nostalgia for his magnificent Rome, its enormous coliseum, Roman Forum and a desire for also its newest additions –to Augustus that is—such as the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and so much more that lies around the corner of the narrow roads. VeryChic decided to follow Augustus on his latest voyage to the capital…

Augustus being as he is, arrived at the Barberini with his ordered Mercedes and accompanying driver. With the utmost charm and elegance he arose from the car and stepped into the lobby, followed by a sleek rolling suitcase. The lobby was a marble floored colonnade furnished with classic furniture and stained-glass windows. Though not quite the grandeur of his palace on Mount Olympus, he seemed satisfied with the interior décor that worked to an antique elegance.

At the reception he was impressively greeted in his own language and handed the keys to his room. Classically styled, his room was small yet cosy and comfortable. He looked and around and decided he was happy with the regal colourings of his room, the deep blues, glittering golds and rich reds. Chandelier-like light fittings gave another classy air to the room whilst the bathroom remained sleek and modern, accompanied by fine toiletries, courtesy of the hotel.

Being a wise emperor, Augustus knew that he would be a little worn down by his journey from Mount Olympus to Rome and had therefore booked himself in for a relaxing massage and session in the spa. Immersed in smooth marble, Augustus decided to take to the waters of the jacuzzi, lie back and enjoy the stars. The stars made by a deep blue ceiling and lights that dotted it, and he felt like he was back in the heavens from where he had come. He did a long circuit, of sauna, hydro shower and jacuzzi and finished with his deep, thorough massage.

Feeling satisfied with his brief transportation to his heavenly home, he returned to his room to gaze out the window and observe the goings on of this human world. The streets parted beautifully and grand buildings stood all around. It wasn’t long before he was tempted out into this world, to try the delicious delicacies that hid in its crevices. What Italian delight would await? Even gods like surprises sometimes.

After his delightful meal down below, he decided that he would hit the heights of the hotel, on the Gregorius terrace bar. Here he could gaze over Rome like he did often from Mount Olympus but excitingly closer, and so close he could touch it. If he wished to, it was just a short walk away, into a world of new things that he hadn’t fully experienced yet.

He did however know of the treat that would await him the next morning, on the hotel’s charming roof terrace. Here he could savour a handpicked breakfast whether he wanted sweet sugary doughnuts or hearty eggs, sausages and bacon. The food may have satisfied his stomach but it was the view that captured his heart.

The main airport serving Rome is Fiumicino Airport, 35.0 km (21.7 mi) southwest of the city centre. Some low-cost airlines however, notably Ryanair, fly into Rome Ciampino Airport, 12 km (7.5 mi) south-southeast of the city centre.

- From the UK: Direct flights from London are offered by British Airways, Monarch, EasyJet and Ryanair. Monarch also operate direct from Birmingham, Easyjet from Bristol and Ryanair from Manchester & Edinburgh. British Airways also fly indirect from other cities such as Belfast.

- From Ireland: Aer Lingus and Ryanair operate direct from Dublin.

- From Germany: Air Berlin, Germanwings, Vueling and Easyjet fly direct out of Berlin. Air Berlin also fly from Dusseldorf, as do Ryanair. Along with Easyjet, Germanwings fly, from Hamburg, and Ryanair, from Cologne. Vueling fly from Munich, and Alitalia and Ryanair from Frankfurt.

- From the Netherlands: Flying from Amsterdam, Vueling and Easyjet offer direct flights, while Transavia fly direct from Rotterdam and Ryanair fly direct from Eindhoven.

- From Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland: SAS, Norwegian and Ryanair run direct from Stockholm, Sweden and Oslo, Norway, and SAS, Norwegian and Easyjet operate direct flights from Copenhagen, Denmark. Norwegian and Finnair fly direct from Helsinki, Finland.

- From France: Air France, Vueling, EasyJet and Ryanair operate direct flights from Paris. From Bordeaux and Marseille direct flights can be found from Air France and Ryanair, and from Toulouse and Lyon, Air France and Easyjet. Easyjet also fly from Nice.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORTS TO THE HOTEL

From Fiumicino Airport to the hotel:
- By Airport Transfer Service: provided by the hotel for 60€ (around £42) per journey.

- By Train: The Leonardo Express takes about 30 minutes to get to Termini Station, it runs 7 days a week and costs around 15€ (around £11), with children under 12 going free. From there, either take a taxi directly to the hotel or take the metro line A for two stops up to Barberini and walk around the corner down Via delle Quattro Fontane until you see the hotel on the right, on the corner with Via Rasella.

- By Bus: Terravision run non-stop buses, also to Termini Station. From there, follow the same directions as above, taking a taxi or the metro to Barberini.

From Ciampino Airport to the hotel:
- By Train: Bus service CO.TRA.L operate buses connecting the airport to the Anagnina metro station (line A). From Anagnina, it is a direct 40 minute metro journey to the Barberini station, just around the corner from the hotel.

- By Bus: Terravision run non-stop buses to Termini Station. From there, again either take a taxi directly to the hotel or take metro line A two stops to Barberini, just around the corner from the Piazza di Spagna. Tickets are 6€/4€ online (around £4/£3 online) for a single or 11€/8€ online (around £8/£6 online) for a return and the journey time is around 40 minutes.
