Budapest is well reputed for its stunning architecture and its moving but mournful history. Yet, when I arrive in the city I am always struck, not by the past, but by the present. The true charm and soul of the city is found in the people, from the bustle of markets and restaurants to a leisurely walk along the banks of the river; history is far from forgotten as each building and statue tells its story, but a happy buzz of life goes on around it and new stories are beginning every moment. The ROOMbach Hotel echoes this feeling as it is in a beautiful area of town, in walking distance of intriguing museums and breathtaking buildings such as the historic Opera House, and yet inside it is vibrant and modern with a colourful dynamism that shows another side of the city.
The lobby is bright and inviting, drawing you in with cheerful colours. I was pleasantly surprised as the staff are equally as welcoming, and happy to help with any questions or offer advice on where to go and what to do. My room was modern and cosy, decorated in warm tones with a very comfortable bed, a lovely view over the garden, and a fresh, white marble en-suite.
I am not normally a morning person, and I don’t always expect too much from a free hotel breakfast, but Budapest is unique in every way and I should not expect ‘normal’. I was met with a fantastic array of tasty choices from a hot and cold breakfast buffet with meats and cheeses, breads and pastries, fruits, cereals, coffee and juices. Plenty to wake me up ready for a day of exploring the city.
My favourite aspect of the hotel is its combination of location and atmosphere. It’s always welcoming and relaxing, and it is perfectly placed to pop in and out of between trips to the cobblestone streets of castle hill, the imposing Parliament building, beautiful Basilicas, or a stop to pick up your swim suit for some time in one of the luxurious thermal baths.
In the evenings, the neighbourhood is also alive with entertainment and gastronomic excitement. Gosdu Court is just on the corner and it’s full of bars and brilliant restaurants where you can sit, enjoy the atmosphere and dine on delectable Hungarian delicacies or foods from around the world. Finally, the 24-hour Bar14 in the lobby of the hotel means that you can unwind after a long day, and sit in a comfortable chair, sipping a last drink before bed.
The ROOMbach hotel is ideally located and a joy to stay at. I am already looking forward to my next visit!
