The Plaza Hotel ***** clearly knows how to make a glamourous first impression. As you enter the lobby you're transported into a grand, sophisticated, shining world where the ceiling opens up above to reveal the corridors of the multiple floors, and the feeling of spaciousness adds to the grandeur. It may take you a minute or two to put your finger on why you seem so at home… or maybe it will click once you've been escorted to your room. The hotel is designed in an English style, and you may feel somewhat like a star in a James Bond film!
Our Deluxe Room was a generous 37 square metres, with large windows which flooded the space with light, and an ambience of quintessentially English style thanks to the simplicity and sophistication of the room. The bathroom became a personal mini spa with the presence of its hydromassage bathtub - if it wasn't for the spa and its facilities on offer, I would have been perfectly content pampering myself!
Suddenly remembering our hunger from our road trip, we made our way to the restaurant for an early dinner. Like the rooms, the restaurant had a minimalist vibe, dressed in white from the furniture down to the flowers themselves. We had a delicious meal, after consulting the waitress about what she recommended from the regional dishes, and left totally satiated. Still, the lounge bar beckoned, and we enjoyed a nightcap in its more casual setting; the atmosphere was fantastic, the music spot on, and the service warm and discreet.
The next day, after a breakfast full of tempting pastries, fresh juice and great coffee, I went to the spa with my slightly begrudging husband in tow. He emerged a new man, and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face and wondered if I was walking with a new spring in my step– I was so relaxed! Staying at the Plaza Hotel ***** didn't exactly turn me into a Bond girl, but I felt pretty close to one.
