Evolving from a modest fisherman village to the world-famous seaside resort of today, Cannes boasts an amazing history and definitely lives up to its motto: “Life is a festival”. The melange of relaxed beaches and lively city-life is definitely a bonus, but what makes the city so special is that it’s not a tourist trap but a real city with real people living there.
After driving down one of the most famous promenades in the world, The Croisette, lined with designer shops and immaculate lawns, we arrived out our hotel. Located on a quiet street in an olive-tree garden, staying at Bastide de l’Oliveraie is like staying in a chalet in the countryside, and yet it’s only a ten minute walk from the vibrant city centre.
I open the door to the Junior Suite to be greeted with the smells of lavender and olives drifting through the windows. Neutral tones and elegant décor compliment the gleaming furnishings, complete with all the modern comforts including a kitchenette with a coffee machine. Our private terrace with a free welcome drink of champagne is an invitation to relax and soak up the beauty of our natural surroundings. Keen to explore the rest of the hotel, I go for a wander and accidentally find myself in the relaxation room, enjoying a full body massage. With a couple of hours left before the sun sets, I decide to make the most of the heat and head to the pool and Jacuzzi where I enjoy panoramic views with another glass of champagne… I could definitely get used to this!
Evening arrives and we stroll into the city, marvelling at the designer yachts in the port on our way, hoping to catch a glimpse of an A-Lister. We feast on traditional French delicacies in a restaurant with a lovely ambience and live music, topped off with superb hospitality. After a pleasant walk through the cobbled streets, we head back to our hotel, ready to dream about the exciting possibilities that the rest of our week in magical Cannes could bring…
