View all offersAthens is a year-round destination, and one of Europe’s best city breaks, so we decided to ditch the rainy British October and spontaneously hop on a plane to magical Greece. AthensWas pays homage to the best architectural renaissance in Athens – classic modernism, reenergised in a fresh and contemporary way thanks to the dedication to modern luxury which the Design Hotels Collection promotes. Upon entering, we were greeted by a stunning interior dominated by Greek marble and walnut flooring. We were escorted to the rooftop bar and treated to a complementary signature cocktail to sip on whilst admiring the jaw-dropping Acropolis.
Our Residence Suite was modern with a comfortable sitting room next to our bedroom. We had a large elegantly furnished veranda and our room overlooked the famous Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. We were truly in the heart of this Greek megalopolis, and we couldn’t wait to go and explore our one-of-a-kind surroundings.
Perhaps the best part of this hotel is the rooftop bar which enjoys an amazing panoramic view of the Acropolis against a backdrop of the mountains to the East and the ocean to the South. The restaurant is elegant and charming, with a magnificent marble floor and a number of stylish furnishings including the Luisa chairs, designed by the Franco Albini, and the Mario Botta table accessories. The traditional Greek cuisine is transformed into high gastronomy without renouncing its simplicity, creating a unique dining experience which you won’t be forgetting any time soon.
Greece simply cannot fail to inspire – it manages to balance its past, present and future in a way managed by few other countries. Our week in Greece was filled with sun-bleached ancient ruins, strong feta and stronger ouzo, and we are in love with it!
