Hotel Trias

A chic summer pied à terre, holiday destination of the stars on the magnificent Costa Brava…

Exceptional
9.7 /10
By Kathryn Atkins, VeryChic correspondent
Picturing the Hotel Trias and its pretty Palamós setting in the 60s is easy – I can just imagine the beautiful fishing port and beaches unchanged since that peak of international tourism. The hotel itself, is the epitome of simple, minimalist charm, and is befitting of any fabulous 60s star. What’s more difficult to imagine is this being the scene of inspiration for such a violent, chilling novel as In Cold Blood, yet here it is. The Hotel Trias is a gem of the beautiful Costa Brava coastline that has drawn many a celebrity before tempting me out for a few days of utter isolation and relaxation. Bring on the dry martinis!

  • If lounging around for the whole stay isn’t your thing, don’t miss out on some of the charming little medieval villages just half an hour’s drive away. Peratallada is a delightful picture-postcard cobbled village full of 12th-century buildings and great little eateries. Try the Candelaria for top-notch food in a quirky environment. Major 9, 17113 Peratallada. +34 972 63 41 81
  • Though a bit of a distance from Palamós, a drive up the coast to Cap de Creus is the very best way to see this eastern edge of Spain in all its rugged glory, with the last 8km stretch winding its way through dramatic moonscapes that go some way to explaining Dali’s bizarre coastline landscapes. Drive for an hour and a half and get there in time to watch the sunset from the lighthouse before you head back. Magnifico. Carretera Cap de Creus, s/n, 17488 Cadaqués, Girona. +34 972 25 82 00
  • If you’re intrigued by these landscapes that inspired Dali and want to see the results, his home town of Figueres is just an hour’s drive away, offering not only his own creation – the Teatre-Museu Dali, a monument to surrealist art – but also a genuinely fascinating town with a French feel and fantastic Spanish bistros serving up traditional Catalan food on leafy squares. Teatre Museu Dali, Torre Galatea Pujada del Castell, 28 E-17600 Figueres. +34 972 677 505. www.salvador-dali.org/museus/teatre-museu-dali/en_index/
