One Shot Colón 46

The Hotel One Shot Colon 46 boldly states that its interior design is a personal interpretation of the city by designer Alfons Tost. It seems a big claim that such a culturally rich city can be presented in a modern 50-room hotel, but as I explore the hotel, and Valencia, I begin to understand.

Valencia might be a vibrant, bustling city now, but at its heart there is a core of rustic charm – after all, this is the place where paella was first invented to feed the farmers using the spoils of the land. And at the heart of the Hotel One Shot Colon 46 – the reception, where any journey of discovery begins – is a wooden reception desk with a swathe of greenery at one end, reminiscent of the rich and fertile surrounding countryside known as La Huerta. But as you journey through the hotel, the rustic design is replaced by sleek, modern lines, reflective of the bold architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences which has become one of Valencia’s main tourist attractions. Arts and science are both celebrated at the Hotel One Shot Colon 46, with temporary exhibitions showcasing the talents of local artists and photographers, while the hi-tech touches like smart mirrors and special lighting show that the hotel is embracing modern technology. Whichever category of room you choose (Standard, Superior or Balcony), the bathrooms are equally impressive with a huge rainfall shower. And with Valencia’s miles of beaches it only seemed fitting that water should also be a key feature within the hotel.

I came away feeling that the Hotel One Shot Colon 46 was itself a piece of art, and one that I had only just begun to understand. Perhaps my interpretation was not what Tost intended at all, I will probably never know. And perhaps you will see something completely different again. But whatever interpretation you leave with, one thing is for sure, you cannot help but fall in love with Valencia.
