  • For one of the best views of Paris don’t head for the Eiffel Tower. Instead make the journey to the top of the Montparnasse Tower – one of Europe’s tallest buildings. Not only are there no queues and cheaper tickets, but you’ll also be able to see the Eiffel Tower. The view is especially pretty at night. www.tourmontparnasse56.com/en/
  • If you’ve had enough of pounding pavements take a stroll along La Promenade Plantée. Roughly translated as The Green Walkway, this is a three-mile long elevated green space created on an abandoned railway line. The closest Metro stop is La Bastille.
  • Visit the Père Lachaise Cemetery, home to more than 70,000 ornate, and sometimes ostentatious, tombs of the rich and famous. Among the most visited are the tombs of Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde. 16 Rue du Repos, 75020 Paris, France, www.pere-lachaise.com.
  • Take a macaroon taste test. Ladurée and Pierre Hermé are two of the most famous macaroon makers not just in Paris, but probably in the world. Ladurée (www.laduree.com) is famed for selling the original macaroon, while Pierre Hermé (www.pierreherme.com) is known for his innovative flavours like chocolate foie gras and strawberry wasabi. Which is your favourite?
