Odalys La Rose d'Argent ★★★★
A family-friendly escape close to the centre of historic Colmar.
Close to the heart of Colmar in the Alsace region of France, the Odalys La Rose d’Argent is in an area famous for its wonderful wines. And I think a good hotel is a not dissimilar to good wine. It’s not just about one thing; there are many different aspects to consider, from location to appearance to complexity, and even what’s accompanying it. Odalys La Rose d’Argent is like a very fine wine – let me guide you through my tasting notes.
LOCATION When choosing a wine you will want to consider its country of origin and also its vineyard. Similarly, when choosing a holiday destination, you will want to consider first the country and then the location. France is always a popular choice for a family holiday, and the Odalys La Rose d’Argent is in a superb location. It’s easily accessible by car (no concerns about the weight of the luggage!), there’s free parking, and once you arrive it is only a short walk to the charming and historic centre of Colmar.
APPEARANCE When you pour a wine, take a look at its appearance – does it appeal? The Odalys La Rose d’Argent is a clean, modern building with well-appointed, bright, airy and welcoming suites. By contrast, Colmar is steeped in history, and its cobblestone lanes, half-timbered houses and bridge-laced canals are so ridiculously picturesque you’ll be snapping selfies all day long.
COMPLEXITY A wine should not just be one flavour – it should change and develop as you taste. The Odalys La Rose d’Argent is not simply just a hotel – it is a home away from home. Your suite has not only a comfortable bed, but also a fully-equipped kitchenette. There’s no need to prepare all the food yourself though as there’s a delicious breakfast buffet on offer. You can also enjoy a wonderful heated indoor swimming pool with jets, and a private garden so there’s plenty of space to relax when you’re not immersing yourself in all the history and culture that Colmar has to offer.
ACCOMPANIMENTS You’ll want to choose your wine depending on what food you are drinking it with. Likewise you will choose your hotel based on who you are travelling with. The Odalys La Rose d’Argent is ideal for many occasions, but it is probably best enjoyed with your family. The combination of the large suites, convenient location and the range of facilities on offer makes it the ideal base for a wonderful family holiday.
