I have so many fond memories of my childhood holidays in the Costa Brava. Mornings spent cycling through the shade of verdant pine forests, followed by sun-kissed family afternoons on the beach, our toes sinking into the golden sand. So, when I decided I needed a break from the hectic buzz of my current city life, I was aching to return, praying that time wouldn’t have changed the scenic coastline I remembered. Imagine my delight when I found the Hotel Hostalillo, nestled in one of the region’s most picturesque bays, barely touched by modern tourism but in prime position to explore the cultural and historical highlights of the area. Where better to rekindle by love for my beloved Costa Brava?

I was hit by an overwhelming sense of nostalgia as me and my husband wound our way through the verdant pine forests towards the Hotel Hostalillo. As my anticipation began to grow exponentially, a worry was niggling at the back of my mind – what if I had idealised my distant treasured memories of the Costa Brava? But as it turns out, I was just as blown away by the stunning scenery as I had been all those years ago. Tucked in the picturesque bay of the coastal village of Tamariu, the charming seafront hotel was surrounded by verdant pines and offered spectacular views over the stunning golden sand and white-washed houses of the bay.

After being warmly welcomed by a friendly and professional member of staff, we were shown to our room. As well as being perfectly equipped with all the amenities we would need, we also had our very own terrace with a wonderful view across the glistening waves below – what was better than feeling the warm sea breeze on your face? However, once settled in, the excited child within me could not be restrained any longer – it was time to explore the great outdoors. Direct access meant the tranquil golden sands were only steps away, whilst the surrounding nature was perfect for the more vigorous pursuits of hiking and cycling. In fact, the famous Camí de Ronda walking route was only a few minutes away!

After days jam-packed full of outdoor adventures and cultural trips to nearby towns and villages, there was nothing better than returning to the hotel for a relaxing evening. The delicious traditional cuisine made with local ingredients served at the on-site restaurant was complemented perfectly by the tremendous view, whilst we adored sipping on a late-night beverage in the charming Mirador Bar. So my treasured childhood memories were crystal clear after all. The Costa Brava’s beautiful scenery, quaint historical town’s and idyllic beaches were just as I had remembered them, and the Hotel Hostalillo was the perfect place from which to enjoy this piece of Spanish coastal paradise.
