View all offersThe Basque language is one of the region’s greatest sources of pride due to its unique sound. While almost everyone, from hotel staff to reclusive farmers, speak Spanish, there is something powerful about using this traditional tongue that will draw you into a world of warm generosity and vast, untamed nature. After a few days at the Hotel Ellauri Hotela, you will feel right at home…
Kaixo – It may look a mouthful, but this word is simply pronounced “kaysho” and means “hi”. No need for overly-polite greetings at the Hotel Ellauri. The staff here are committed to making your stay as comfortable as possible, with an emphasis on celebrating nature and preserving agricultural traditions - from the eco-friendly water and heating systems to fun trips out to learn about local cooking or be a farmer for the day..Try “kaixo” out on the friendly staff; it’s worth it to see their faces light up!
Oso gozo – “delicious” – with the hotel restaurant’s dedication to using the freshest local produce from the nearby basserria (Basque farms), you will find yourself savouring the food at breakfast and dinner. Try out the traditional alubiada bean stew, served with a veritable feast of home-baked bread and delicious local rioja wine for groups of five or more – what better way to get into the warm and convivial Basque spirit?
Topa! – There’s nothing quite like clinking glasses full of the local white wine txakoli and crying out “cheers!” in the native tongue! You may never have heard of the local wines in the vast wine cellar, but they definitely deserve a tasting, and staff are unfailingly polite and generous with advice.
