Hotel Sorli Emocions ★★★★

Although I’d greatly enjoyed my last few European getaways, they had all been rather jam-packed as I soaked up the endless layers of culture that adorn the great cities of Europe. So for this year, I thought I’d change tack and go for a more relaxing holiday. And boy was I happy I made that decision; otherwise I would have never found the peaceful gem that is the Hotel Sorli Emocions.

Located in the small town of Vilassar de Dalt in the beautiful area of Maresme, the hotel sits tranquilly between the majestic mountains and the shimmering waves of the sea. As soon as I arrived, I was immediately enveloped in an utterly contemporary world of comfort, where nothing was too much to ask and the smiling staff were more than happy to oblige every wish. I’d opted for a Terrace Room, which boasted a bright and spacious interior embellished with entirely modern amenities, including Wi-Fi, a minibar and a Dolce Gusto coffee maker. And all of this comfort was complemented by a gorgeous terrace, for endless opportunities to breathe in the coastal air – what more could I want? One of the establishment’s other refreshing characteristics is its firm dedication to supporting its surrounding area. My luxurious Egyptian cotton bed sheets were made just down the road in nearby Sabadell, whilst the dishes served in the restaurant are made from fresh local ingredients.

I spent many contented hours soaking up the warm sun and tranquil ambience on the sun terrace, whilst taking the occasional refreshing dip in the outdoor pool and sporadically visiting the sports centre next door to make the most of their extensive fitness and spa facilities. But when I did get the urge for a culture fix every so often, the innumerable treasures of Barcelona and quintessentially Catalonian charm of Girona were just a stone’s throw away. All in all, it’s safe to say that I came back from my relaxing Spanish getaway singing its praises from the rooftops – I normally never visit the same place twice, but I think I could make an exception.
