As the subject of this year’s holiday destination crept into mine and my husband’s conversation one evening, I brought up my old favourite suggestion: the Emerald Coast of northern Sardinia. My husband pulled his usual face – although he agreed that the region is beautiful, he had always been put off by its glitzy reputation. But I was prepared with a brilliant proposition: the Hotel Li Graniti****, set on a peaceful hillside just outside the bustling resort of Baia Sardinia – and with its charming Mediterranean style, peaceful location and lovely views, how could he resist?

BY PLANE

  • The closest international airport is Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, half an hour from the hotel.
    - From the UK: Seasonal direct flights can be found from London operated by EasyJet and Meridiana, and Easyjet from Bristol.

    - From Ireland: Unfortunately no direct flights exist, but it is possible to arrive via a combination of airlines, for instance Ryanair and Easyjet, with a stop-over in either England or France.

    - From Germany: Air Berlin fly from Dusseldorf and Munich, and also seasonally from Berlin and Cologne. Lufthansa fly seasonally from Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Cologne. Germanwings and Meridiana also fly seasonally from Hamburg.

    - From the Netherlands: Seasonal flights are provided by Transavia from Amsterdam.

    - From Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland: Seasonal flights are provided by Norwegian from three of the respective capitals: Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo. From Helsinki there are no direct flights, however indirect flights can be found, for instance, with Norwegian.

    - From France: EasyJet and Meridiana operate direct flights seasonally from Paris. Easyjet also fly seasonally from Lyon and Nice. XL Airways fly seasonally from Strasbourg and Lille, and Volotea fly seasonally from Bordeaux.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

  • By taxi: A taxi from the airport to the hotel will take around half an hour and will cost 55€ - 70€.

    By car: Get onto Strada Statale 125 Orientale Sarda then exit onto the SP59. Take the third left then keep left to continue on Località la Punga. Continue for 6 kilometres and the hotel will be on your left. Grid reference: 41.121360, 9.473243.
