He’s gone and done it again, that marvellously spontaneous husband of mine; he’s booked another holiday, this time to the glorious Swiss Alps. There’s always been something about the purity of the air and the far-flung removal from the mundanity of everyday which has appealed to us, but this time I was especially excited: we were staying at the wonderful Chalet Royalp Hôtel & Spa *****, a cosy and stylish address, nestled in the mountains at 1300 metres above sea level.

BY PLANE

  • Geneva Airport (120 km) is the closest well served international airport, located 1 hour 30 minutes' drive west of the hotel, it receives flights from many capitals and major cities across Europe.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

  • - By Airport Transfer Service provided by the hotel from Geneva airport on request and for a surcharge of 500 CHF (460€/£400).

    - By Train/Bus: First take the IR train from the airport to Aigle (the journey lasts around and hour and 30 minutes, and costs around 37€ one way). From Aigle you may take the 144 bus to Villars-sur-Ollon (though Aigle is only about 15 km/ 9 mi from Villars, the bus must wind up the mountain and therefore takes a further hour or so)

    - By Car: Follow directions for the E60 / 1 to Versoix / Lausanne. Once in Lausanne follow the direction of Lausanne Nord and then Montreux on the E62 / 9. Approaching Montreux stay on the E62 / 9 towards Martigny. Take exit 17 to Aigle Ollon. From there  follow signs for Ollons and Villars. Once in Villars, the hotel is located just off one of the main streets running through the village, Route du Col de la Croix.

    - By Train: Lausanne is served by TGV Lyria high speed trains. It is therefore possible to arrive by high-speed train from London and other cities across Europe, switching for a regular train from Lausanne to Aigle and then taking the 144 bus to Villars.
