A visa is required to enter into India.
From the 1st May 2015, the Indian authorities have put in place a system to apply for a visa online in advance and obtain the visa upon entering the country, called an "e-Tourist visa" (e-TV). This is available in 16 airports in India (including Bangalore, Bombay, Calcutta, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Kochi and Trivandrum).
The "e-Tourist Visa" must be applied for online (at least 4 days before arriving in India and a maximum of 30 days in advance) at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/tvoa.html. The E-tourist Visa fees are country/territory specific although the maximum should be 60$ plus application fees. The fee must be paid at least 4 days before the expected date of travel otherwise the application will not be processed. The eTV fee once submitted is non-refundable as the fee is for processing of the application and is not dependent on either Grant or Rejection of VISA.
A recent front facing photograph with white background, and photocopy of your passport containing personal details like name, date of birth, nationality, expiry date etc. will need to be uploaded by the applicant.
The "e-Tourist Visa" is only available for short-term stays with the objective of recreation, sight seeing, casual visit of friends or relatives, short duration medical treatment or casual business.
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in India, and at least 2 blank pages. International travellers should also have a return or onward journey ticket with sufficient money to spend during their stay in India.
The applicant should carry a copy of their eTV authorisation at the time of travel. The visa will be issued upon entering the country and will be valid for 30 days from that date.
For more information please visit your nearest Indian embassy or their website, or visit the Indian Governments e-Tourist Visa website:
