In the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional du Queyras, nestled among the picturesque French Alps at a height of 2,204 metres, sits the charming town of Saint-Véran – known as one of the prettiest towns in all of France. One of the highest inhabited towns in Europe, it’s filled with cosy gingerbread-cottage chalets built in wood and stone and quaint and characterful touches such as old fountains, outdoor bread ovens and pretty sundials. Here, built in the style of the old traditional houses sits the luxurious Alta Peyra hotel, blending rustic Alpine architecture with modern style and comfort.

  • The Natural Regional Park of Queyras is great for exploring. In summer there are a whole host of activities to try, from rock climbing and fishing to mountaineering, canyoning and hiking.
  • Saint-Véran is known as one of the most beautiful villages in France, so take time to explore. Of particular interest is the village church and La Maison Traditionelle – an old traditional Alpine house.
  • Take a visit to the old copper mine, where there’s an exhibition detailing the history of the mine and the village.
  • Check out the Soum Museum of Arts and Traditions to get a better insight into Saint-Véran and life in the high Alps.

Alternatively, the better-served Marseille-Provence Airport (MRS), just northwest of Marseille, is around 270 km / 170 mi / 3 hours & 20 minutes' drive southwest of the hotel. It receives regular flights from capitals and major cities from across Europe.
