Grand Hotel Parker's ★★★★★

Rarely have I come across a hotel with such a spectacular view as the one that the Grand Hotel Parker’s enjoys over the Bay of Naples. From my room’s balcony, I could see the whole town and could imagine the hubbub of car horns, tourists and furiously gesticulating locals. I saw boats gently bobbing up and down in the marina and the clear blue of the Mediterranean.

Inside the rooms rich fabrics, Italian marble, shimmering chandeliers and antique wooden furniture afford a prestigious level of luxury, whilst the themes of each floor, such as Charles X, Louis XIV and Empire, make it apparent that the key word in the hotel’s name is ‘Grand’. Grandeur is everywhere you look!

The lobby and even the façade of the hotel entice you with all the same splendour as the rooms, with chandeliers, mirrors, marble and chic furnishings dominating the interior. Even more spectacular than the ground floor, however, is the sixth floor, where George’s Restaurant spills out onto the stunning roof garden. It is a beautiful way to start the day, enjoying an exquisite breakfast on the terrace as the sun rises over Vesuvius; or better yet to end the day, enjoying a romantic dinner of famous Neapolitan cuisine by candlelight.

The Bidder’s Bar offers a magical atmosphere, with equally breathtaking views, a superb choice of drinks and a relaxing Cigar Corner. Part of an exclusive circuit of ‘Bond Bars’, it offers a wide range of cocktails favoured by 007 himself.

Once suitably revitalised by a great meal and comfortable night’s sleep, and despite the temptation to remain basking on my balcony, it is time to explore the town itself. Its rich history spanning three millennia, ancient Greek and Roman ruins, elaborate churches, the sparkling sea and dazzling sunshine… everything about the city seduced me.
