I don’t think I’ve been anywhere in the world that takes on such an outrageous approach to luxury than Dubai. And I absolutely love it. It’s the only place in the world where you can eat stuffed camel or see a traffic jam made entirely out of Lamborghinis, and no one bats an eyelid. Forests of glittering skyscrapers and beaches shaped like palm trees are bound to make anyone feel like an A-list celebrity, especially when they indulge in a luxury stay at the Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai *****. Centred squarely in the middle of the vibrant city centre, its location is ideal to immerse yourself in all the wonders that this spectacular city has to offer.

Unlike your typical ultra-modern high-rise hotels in Dubai, the Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai ***** is unusual in that it has retained some local authenticity with an added touch of contemporary flair. The grandeur of the hotel immediately impressed on me as soon as I walked in; geometric patterned marble floors lead to two enormous sweeping staircases in gleaming ivory, surrounded by rows of lush, viridian green plants that add a subtle touch of elegance. The executive deluxe room I booked follows a similar design scheme, and I was greeted by a belly-flop worthy king sized bed decked out in various shades of warm earth tones. The floor-to-ceiling windows that ensured fabulous city views were the icing on the cake, and saturated the already spacious room with plenty of light. Yet first up on the itinerary – before I even checked out the Executive Lounge – was to soak away my cares and troubles with a rather decadent bubble bath (tried and tested as the best way to de-stress after a long flight, trust me).

Deluxe bubble bath in check, I sauntered up to the Executive Lounge for some free happy hour cocktails and canapés. The sleek design and delectable treats soon made it my favourite place to relax, and even better yet were the friendly staff who were genuinely interested to hear about your adventures through Dubai that day. The Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai ***** knows that unparalleled decadence can make a person hungry, and leaves no stone unturned when it comes to tantalizing dining options (the Lebanese and North Indian specialties on offer being my personal favourites!) If the wide selection of bars at the hotel doesn’t quite quench your thirst, malls bars and clubs galore await just 10 minutes away by car.
