My sister and I have a long history of adventures together, and have always been drawn to the beautiful city of Bruges. We freely admit that the abundance of chocolate waffles has something to do with it, as does the pleasure of train travel to Belgium. But it's also linked to the penchant we have for films with knight and horses, and medieval architecture that immerses you in dreamy fantasy about a slower, more romantic yesteryear. We found the hotel Dukes’ Arches for our trip - a perfect place to surround ourselves with nostalgic luxury.

Situated in a central area, just a few minutes from Bruges' Grand Place and several shops and restaurants, the Hotel Dukes' Arches - Adults Only **** occupies a recently renovated character house.

BY PLANE

  • Ostend–Bruges International Airport (OST), or simply Ostend Airport, sits 25 km / 15 mi from Bruges centre. The airport is very little served however, with a handful of flights from mainly Spain and Greece.

    The closest well-served airport is Brussels National Airport (BRU), just northeast of Brussels, and about 112 km / 70 mi east of Bruges. It receives flights from many major cities across Europe, including the UK.

    To the hotel:

    From Brussels National Airport:

    Taxi: licensed taxis can be recognized by the blue and yellow emblem and should take around 20-30 minutes to reach the city centre.
    Train: an airport express train operates to the city centre. From there, take the train to Brussels-Midi station. From Brussels-Midi station, take a direct train to Bruges. The hotel is within walking distance from Bruges station.

    From Brussels-South Charleroi Airport:

    Taxi: taxis should offer a fixed price to Brussels city centre, taking about 1 hour, and may be cost-efficient if shared between four passengers.
    Bus: shuttle buses run once an hour every day to Brussels-Midi station and take about 45 minutes. From Brussels-Midi station, take a direct train to Bruges. The hotel is within walking distance from Bruges station.
    Car: Follow signs onto the E42 then E420/A54 to Brussels, then merging onto the A7. Take the exit for the RO Ouest. Finally, take exit 17 for Brussels-Centre to reach Hotel Dukes' Arches located in Bruges.
