Nestled in the sweeping bends of the Dordogne River, Carsac-Aillac lies at the heart of the Aquitaine wine country. The region’s tryst with history is visible in its Romanesque architecture and verdant copses of trees by the river, albeit punctuated by pastoral meadows. Misty mornings and the serene waters of the river accentuate the atmosphere of luxury, true French hospitality, and contentment, all of which are to be found at the historic La Villa Romaine ****, an authentic converted 17th Century villa that reflects the soothing tranquillity of the countryside.
Replete with an abundance of castles, churches, châteaux and caves to explore, the commune of Carsac-Aillac in the Dordogne region of south-western France is a place where time forgot to move forward. Stone buildings, relics, and ruins dating back to the Roman era, and warm hospitality, are what await the traveller who steps into this ethereal hideaway.
The three large walls of the hotel form a cosy courtyard where guests will find it easy to linger an entire day with a glass of wine, delicious food, and a good book for company. Dinner on the terrace on warm nights is a magical experience, where the stone floors and wood beams compete with clear star encrusted skies to create an almost poetically beautiful scene. Combine that with the simple pleasures of fresh produce, sublime local cuisine, and fine wines and you have the recipe for an unbeatable evening.
The rooms are housed snugly inside three stone buildings that have unobstructed views of the lush rolling countryside, stretching as far as the eye can see. They are dressed in warm earthy tones, with soft rugs and crocheted cushion covers to add an element of old world elegance.
Take a well-earned rest from the stress of daily life and let the blissful French sun and wine slow you down to a gentle lull and melt your troubles away. Here at La Villa Romaine ****, the past and present mingle freely within the timeless stone walls, providing you with the most tranquil haven possible!
