Cannes is simply irresistible. The atmosphere created by a harbour full of yachts, designer boutiques on the Croisette promenade and world-class boutiques on the Rue d’Antibes certainly helps to create an atmosphere of nonchalant and affluent glamour. The pure white classical façade of Le Canberra **** with its tiers of pretty balconies stands on the Rue d’Antibes, in the company of big-name designer outlets and other luxury establishments. Just down the road is the Palais des Festivals, and the infamous sandy beaches await just a few minutes’ walk away; here prestige and glamour is woven into the very fabric of everyday life!
Warm and courteous staff showed me to my suite. The pink settees and pure white beds looked tempting and divine, while the bathroom was a dream in black and white marble. Apart from the pink the colours were kept neutral, meanwhile retro 50s-style furniture oozed an inimitable Marilyn Monroe style cool; what a base for a little light shopping, sightseeing and beach-going!
The first port of call was the Le Café Blanc bar for a cocktail, created and served by a charming ‘mixologist’ bartender, as I reclined in the Pierre Paulin-designed raspberry pink bucket chairs of the bar. The restaurant is pure black and white; unmistakeably French and elegant! Le Café Blanc offers exquisite Italian-inspired Mediterranean cuisine, where Chef Joel Siri’s dishes are a feast for senses, serving colourful dishes that delight and amaze before you even take your first bite!
Lounging by the pool, setting out for serious shopping and basking in my idyllic surroundings occupied my sun soaked days in Cannes, where glamour and indulgence are always on offer. At Le Canberra ****, Hollywood glitz meets French chic in this dazzling coastal setting; who could possibly resist?
