Provence became the foremost destination for a host of artists, poets and writers who were seeking inspiration in the 20th century; in fact, it might be quicker to list those who didn’t venture through in search of finding their muse. I headed to Provence on the footsteps of luminaries such as Edith Wharton, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Somerset Maugham, Katherine Mansfield, van Gogh, Renoir, Matisse, Picasso, Monet, Munch, Klein… and, of course, Provence’s most famous local, Cezanne. There is something magical about Provence that draws artists to it, and I arrived at the Mas de la Fouque **** determined to uncover its secret.

Mas de la Fouque **** is located in the near the small town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, in the heart of the Camargue and an hour or so from Montpellier.

BY PLANE

  • Nîmes-Alès-Camargue-Cévennes Airport, (52 km) is located 45 minutes north of the hotel. HOP! operate flights from Paris and Lyon and Ryanair fly from London. Equidistant is the Montpellier Airport (50 km) is located 45 minutes northwest of the hotel, and it is served by regular flights from Paris and London, as well as seasonal flights from European capitals and major cities.

    Marseille-Provence Airport (105 km) is the closest well served international airport, located 1 hour 20 minutes south-east of the hotel, it receives flights from many capitals and major cities across Europe.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

  • - By airport transfer service: available to and from Montpellier Airport for 110€ each way.

    -By car: we recommend renting a car from a car rental company, they can be easily found at the airport terminal, although it is cheaper to book online and in advance. Directions from Marseille Airport. Leave the airport, taking the D20 and following signs for the A7/ E714 towards Rognac. Continue for 20 km, taking the exit onto the A54/ E80 and merging onto N113 after 25 km. Take exit 4 toward Nîmes/ Arles/ Saintes Maries de la Mer, taking the D570 south. Take a right onto the D85 and then left onto D38. After a kilometre or so the hotel will be on your left.
