The Pi Athens Suites ***** claim that, like the number Pi, they are infinitely dedicated to give their guests an exceptional experience. And exceptional it is too – it takes the grandeur and lofty elegance of a behemoth hotel resort and squeezes it into a tiny boutique hotel. In contrast to its staggeringly old surroundings the hotel instead opted for a simplistic modern style; clean, cool neutrals give an immensely peaceful ambience from the moment you step foot in the door.
The fatigue from our breakneck speed history tours ebbed away on seeing our spacious suite, lit up by the enormous windows stretching across the room. It would have been easy to spend an afternoon gazing at the majestic Acropolis from bed, sipping on my welcome gift wine like a Grecian queen. Despite being at its beating heart I couldn’t have felt further from the hectic pace of Athens’ bustling streets; this was our very own slice of Elysium.
For urban explorers like ourselves the location couldn’t have been better. We were planted squarely in the middle of some of the city’s most magnificent sights – the Panathenaic Stadium was just 50m from our hotel, the Byzantine Museum a short stroll along sun bleached buildings and olive trees. Sure our goal was ambitious, but the location of the Pi Athens Suites ***** made it infinitely easier. The sun soaked days were best ended on the rooftop terrace before we ventured in search of dinner (a surprisingly difficult feat thanks to the plethora of delightful tavernas nearby), where we loved watching the sunset. Views of Athens stretched far and wide; it occurred to me that this was the same Attican sky that inspired Homer’s “rosy-fingered dawn” and whole millennia of artists and I felt immensely humbled. While I’ve heard the saying “beware Greeks bearing gifts”, I couldn’t refuse that of the Pi Athens Suites ***** - an unforgettable experience of Athens that I’ll want to relive time and time again.
