Rarely does a hotel feel so much like a second home than the Maison de mon Père, a charming boutique guest house located in the centre of the achingly pretty Provençal town Aigues-Mortes. With just four rooms, each given their own individual chic design, along with personalised service from owner Viviane herself and hearty breakfasts, the hotel offers a uniquely personal atmosphere. Short of buying your own place in Provence, this is the best base from which to explore the vast meadows and wetlands of La Camargue and medieval charms of Provence!
There’s a reason the Maison de mon Père calls itself a “home” rather than a hotel. Its owner, Viviane Régis, mastered luxury hotel service when heading the famous Mas de la Fouque, before opening this one. This is her home too, and she is ever present and ever attentive, creating a unique hotel experience. There is no end to the attention to detail at the Maison de mon Père…
Every great hotel owes its character to its history – in this case it was the home of a great painter, and firm friend of Viviane. Their friendship leaves a personal touch throughout, including paintings from the artist himself, adding flair and colour to the otherwise minimalist décor. The Maison de mon Père shares similar friendships with other artisans and artists, with Viviane continuously furnishing the guesthouse with unique pieces she discovers in local workshops, adding to the authentic, warm feel of the hotel.
The personal touches don’t end there, though. In several rooms, unusual layouts contribute to the comfort and practicality of the hotel. Take the Rose room, for example. Here, rather than creating a confined bathroom space, Viviane installed the bathroom right in the bedroom, with an elegant tub high on a raised platform. Not only does this contribute to the intimate and cosy nature of a couple’s stay here, but she is also quick to point out the decadent pleasure of being able to see the large flat-screen TV from the bath…
From its arty flourishes to its unique design touches, this guest house offers a level of luxurious comfort and peace-of-mind rarely found in modern-day hotels.
