My tiny jam-packed car probably looked quite the sight trundling down to Brittany, surfboards precariously attached on top with just enough room for my boyfriend and I. Seaside adventure was on the ticket – somewhere with the rugged Celtic charm of Cornwall with crêpes and a dash of French style to boot. The Vacances Bleues Les Jardins d’Arvor **** exuded bucket loads of nautical charm, and we were won over in an instant.
Coming through the front door of our apartment, slightly cross eyed from the drive and suitcases in tow, the classic Breton style living room really was a sight for sore eyes. We settled in right away; after sending the boyfriend off to find provisions for a light lunch, whipped up right here in our own kitchen, the sounds of the distant sea lulled me into a much needed sleep. Peace and calm radiated throughout this apartment thanks to the quiet atmosphere and abundance of soft light, something that was all the more welcome after a day of heart-racing seaside thrills.
Not that those thrills were hard to get to – getting out and about was made infinitely easier thanks to the residence’s location within arm’s reach of the charming town centre and the coast. Landscapes like this practically begged you to explore, and when the weather obliged we spent our days surfing in the sea or even just meandering along the untainted beaches. Better yet was the spa and Hammam featuring at the residence for when the weather was a little less clement, or when we felt spent after a day in the sea.
The Breton way of life, history and culture had us both smitten – even after a fortnight we both agreed we hadn’t scratched beneath the surface of what this delightful place had in store. That or, as I suspect, we were already both longing to come home to the Vacances Bleues Les Jardins d’Arvor ****.
