For me, Crete has almost everything you could dream of in a holiday destination. It has history to excite Archaeology professors; a modern vibrancy to entice any social butterfly, and enough unique cultural heritage to feel like a country of its own. Out on its Eastern edge is the charming old fishing town of St. Nicolas, home to a resort that is too sophisticated to boast, but has received plenty of accolades. It has taken the luxury beachside dream and made it a reality - The St. Nicolas Bay Resort Hotel and Villas is one of Crete's most exquisite examples of hospitality.

  • Spinaloga Island – the concierge service can help to arrange a boat trip across Mirabello Bay to this small island, famous for being home to a leper colony until 1957. It has a grand Venetian Castle and is the most visited archaeological site on Crete after Knossos.
  • Monastery of Toplou – this ancient Byzantine monastery plays an important role in Crete's tumultuous past, and now is now a renowned producer of excellent wine, virgin olive oil and Cretan raki.

  • Heraklion International Airport, “Nikos Kazantzakis” (HER), is Crete's main airport and closest to the hotel, sat on the central northern coast. It is about 60 km / 39.8 mi / 1 hour's drive from the hotel.

    The airport receives flights from a large number of cities across Europe, including the UK. If travelling out of season, it is possible to fly indirect via Athens.
