After a long day enjoying the 120 kilometres of pistes available in Crest-Voland, the only thing on most people’s minds is how quickly they can unstrap their skis, rest their legs and warm up. Thank goodness, then, for Hôtel du Mont-Charvin ****. Since 1960, they’ve been the local experts in hospitality for guests to the Alpine resort, and the hotel is still in the original family’s capable hands today.
The hotel retains the look and cosy appeal of a traditional chalet. Thick and soft throws trap in the warmth, smooth wood carvings add to the authentic décor and a crackling wood-burning stove wards off chills. Though, at the end of the day, there may be no better way to warm yourself through than by visiting the on-site sauna and soaking up the heat.
The food served at the restaurant is traditional Savoyard cuisine, too – try raclette, tartiflette, fondue, diots and a whole range of other local hearty, filling and delicious delicacies from across the region. In the afternoon, a quick pancake or pastry at the crêperie is perfect if you need to refuel before venturing back on to the slopes. It’s best enjoyed in the fresh mountain air from the outside terrace, where you can watch the skiers whizzing across the snow as you dine, or enjoy a beer from the friendly hotel bar.
It’s been over half a century since the joys of a skiing holiday in Crest-Voland were first revealed. To uncover those traditional delights for yourself, there’s no place better than the enchanting Hôtel du Mont-Charvin ****.
