St. Petersburg is served Pulkovo Airport (LED), located about 23 km / 14 mi south of the city centre.
The airport is fairly well served internationally, with a large number of flights from capitals and major cities across Europe. Many of those flights are operated by Rossiya Airlines, for which the airport serves as a hub.
To travel to Russia, you must obtain a visa in advance at your local Russian Embassy or Consulate for a fee (the fee varies between countries).
To obtain the Russian Tourist Visa the following is required:
It is advisable to allow for up to 20 business days (4 weeks) for the visa application to be processed. Depending on the which country/consulate you are applying from, there may also be a 5 day "waiting period" after the visa is issued before entry into Russia is allowed. We recommend to check with your consul that your visa will be valid in time for travel.
As part of the visa application process, residents of some countries will need to visit a visa application centre to submit biometric data (scanned fingerprints). This includes the UK (centres are located in London, Manchester and Edinburgh).
If you’re travelling on a British passport issued since January 2017, you should make sure you’ve signed your passport before you travel. Some British nationals who haven’t signed their new passports have been denied entry into Russia.
Important note: the above information is intended as a guideline, however, we strongly recommend that you refer to the website for your local Russian Embassy for the most up to date information.
