Els Àngels Hotel & Restaurant found inspiration for its name in the history of its site: in the 15th century, the hilltop was the home of a hermitage and there’s still an active church there to this day. And yet, when you’re looking out over the top of Girona and across the Pyrenees, to the islands of Medes, to Montseny, the Guilleries and beyond, the impression that you’re sharing perspective with the angels, watching over the world, is inescapable.

360-degree views of the region mean that there are impressive vistas from any one of the hotel rooms, where the airy, light décor doesn’t distract from the visions of natural beauty that surround you. The rest of the hotel is decorated in a similarly traditional way, with high-curved ceilings and cool stone flooring.

The view is perhaps best enjoyed from the terrace, where guests can enjoy a cool breeze as respite from the hot Spanish sun and sit beneath the trees. In this setting, the delicious and authentic rural Catalan cuisine served up from the hotel restaurant puts guests in mind of manna from the gods. A glass of the local favourite tipple from the hotel bar, locally known as vermut, is the ideal way to round off a meal.

Perhaps it’s neither the history nor the views that give Els Àngels Hotel & Restaurant its name – perhaps it’s purely that any stay there is simply heavenly.
