The Hotel Palazzo Stern really is the loveliest building. On arrival you are greeted by mullioned windows set in honey-coloured stone with elegant slim columns over the veranda. This historic hotel is actually a 15th century Moorish Palazzo, originally with only two floors. In the early 20th century, the building was acquired by a family of art collectors and traders – the Sterns. The whole palace was re-built and refurbished using some of the materials and art from the original building, and incorporating antiques, artwork, and mosaics from other palaces. The result is remarkable: a sort of collage or collection of memories from different periods of Venetian history, all blending together to create an authentic Palazzo.
Inside the hotel, you are immediately surrounded by classic Italian-tiled floors, fresco-painted ceilings, and intricately patterned light fittings, along with marble columns and decorative brickwork, antique furniture and carved wooden balustrades. There are 24 rooms, all decorated in classical Venetian style: ornate wall fabrics, curtains, and wall hangings, with oriental carpets, carved stuccos, and gilding. The traditional arts of Venetian glassblowers are showcased in the Murano glass and vases, chandeliers and appliqués. You will also find contemporary comfort such as Wi-Fi, a minibar, a safe, air conditioning, a TV and a tea/coffee station.
The location right by the vaporetto stop is brilliant to get around the city and visit the lagoon islands. Whether you choose to explore the city by foot, take a tour of the famous Teatro La Fenice, or a trip to the Lido di Venezia, Venice is undoubtedly the most romantic dreamy city to visit. The beauty of the city is legendary, but it may just be the beauty of the Hotel Palazzo Stern that will make your fairy-tale come true.
