Santorini is a dream destination, and Oia its most iconic town. White stone houses in terraces tumble precariously towards the Aegean, stopping short of the colourful layered cliffs. Deep ochre houses, bright blue church domes and vibrant reds punctuate the ubiquitous white. Those at the Andronis Boutique Hotel have created a haven of luxury and tranquillity in one of the most desirable spots in Europe.
We arrived at the hotel as the sky was beginning to be tickled pink, so took a table at the hotel restaurant with a complimentary glass of champagne. The restaurant glowed in orange candlelight; a thousand stars emerged above us and the sea reflected the moonlight. We enjoyed organic Mediterranean dishes and wonderful local wine and let ourselves slowly settle into the sights and sounds of the Aegean.
The whole hotel merges with the rock it's hewn into. All the suites are set into the rock, real-life caves, giving them the most sumptuous, curvy and natural feel. Soft lines, arched doorways and alcoves set into the stone make for a unique ambience, whilst the décor is confident, minimalist, and luxurious. Our room was a hymn to nature, with a thick rustic wood coffee table, stylishly weathered furniture, and marble features. And the best thing, our very own Jacuzzi on our terrace! We had night-time soaks in waters illuminated under a canopy of stars and candlelight, so unbelievably close to the sky.
The next morning, we had a wonderful fresh breakfast followed by some quality relaxation in the glistening pool. The poolside area was totally serene and stylish, and the adjoining bar served top-class cocktails. The world of Andronis Boutique hotel was almost too perfect to leave. It was only the allure of exploring the heady beauty of Oia that could persuade us! Now we too are total converts to the charms of Santorini, and mostly, its unique cliff-top paradise, the Andronis Boutique Hotel.
