Decadent residence in the Venice of the north

By Melanie Webb, VeryChic correspondent
Once the country’s capital, Russia’s St. Petersburg is a spontaneous burst of colour and culture in a historic and indulgent setting. Beneath the coloured, conical building tops throughout the city are sparkling crystal chandeliers and regal furnishings, beckoning you to uncover Russia’s wealthy, powerful, imperial past. Here, you can wander the Venice-like canals and experience Italian-inspired architecture. Not only are there sights to see, but also rich experiences, with bustling theatres, filled-to-the-brim museums, lavish parties and melodious concert halls. All of this and more is on your doorstep with the Author Boutique Hotel *****.

BY PLANE

  • St. Petersburg is served Pulkovo Airport (LED), located about 23 km / 14 mi south of the city centre and 21.4 km from the hotel, approximately a 36 minute journey.

The airport is fairly well served internationally, with a large number of flights from capitals and major cities across Europe. Many of those flights are operated by Rossiya Airlines, for which the airport serves as a hub.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS - RUSSIAN VISA

  • To travel to Russia, you must obtain a visa in advance.

Russian visas may be obtained at your local Russian Embassy or Consulate. To have a visa issued, an official invitation processed by Russian governmental or officially authorised companies is required – hotels will provide this for a fee (or in some cases for free).

Russian consulates in Europe take 3 to 10 business days to process a visa. Depending on the consulate, there may also be a 5 day "waiting period" after the visa is issued before entry into Russia is allowed. We recommend to check with your consul that your visa will be valid in time for travel.

To obtain the Russian Tourist Visa the following are required:
    1) Your original passport with at least 2 blank visa-designated pages (passport must be valid for at least 6 months after intended departure date from Russia).
    2) Two copies of Russian visa application form, completed and signed.
    3) ONE passport-size photo signed on the back.
    4) Confirmation of hotel arrangements from authorized Russian travel company, or directly from the Russian hotel, showing reference number and confirmation number for the visa.
