Minareto ★★★★★

It is said that the Greek goddess Artemis transformed her nymph Arethusa into an underground stream, from Greece all the way to Sicily, to help her escape the advances of the river god Alpheus. She continues to bubble up as a freshwater fountain on Ortygia to this day. Winding my way down from the Minareto towards the sparkling sea, across the way from Ortygia, I think how I would happily spend the rest of my days simply trickling down these rocks, basking in sunshine.

This is just one of many local myths and legends associated to Syracuse. Mythology aside, it is also rich with fascinating culture and history. It was home to the great Archimedes, famous for his principles on displacement of water. I for one, spent a great deal of my time here keeping cool by displacing the waters of the Mediterranean Sea!
