The Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I ***** offers panoramic views of the city from its seat, a little outside the historic city centre. Situated on one of Barcelona’s main streets, the Avinguda Diagonal; it is well connected to the city by public transport.
From Barcelona-El Prat airport:
- By taxi: Found outside all of the main terminal exits and operating all night, a taxi takes 20 to 30 minutes to the city (depending on traffic) and costs about 25€ from T2 and 30€ from T1 (a little further) with surcharges for luggage. Be sure to take an official, black and yellow, taxi.
- By train: The cheapest and fastest way of getting to and from the airport. Trains run roughly every 30 minutes to Barcelona, taking around 25 minutes. A single airport ticket costs more than a regular single and is not necessarily the best option. Possibly the most cost-efficient, especially if you plan on using public transport during your stay, is the T10. At just under 10€, it is valid for 10 journeys (including the airport zone) with no expiry date. It can also be shared by more than one person at a time and works on trains, buses and trams. When taking the train, get off at Sants, from there take the metro, line 3 (green) five stops up to Zona Universitària.
- By bus: Aerobus run express buses between the airport and city centre. Tickets are 5.90€ for a single and 10.20€ return. Get off at Plaça Espanya and take the metro, line 3 (green), seven stops up to Zona Universitària. There are two night buses (NitBus), the N17 from Terminal 1 and the N16 from Terminal 2. A single ticket is 2.15€. You can also use the T10 on this bus. Get off at Gran Via – Llançà and take the metro at Plaça Espanya, line 3 (green), seven stops up to Zona Universitària. Note the metro runs from 5am to 12am Sunday through to Thursday, to 2am Fridays and all night on Saturdays.
- By metro: The new metro line will get straight from the airport to the city. take line 9 Sud (orange) from Barcelona airport 12 stops up to Zona Universitària.
From Girona–Costa Brava airport:
- By bus: The most convenient route; the Barcelona Bus to Barcelona city centre, run by Sagalés, coincides with Ryanair flight times. A return ticket costs 25€ and can be purchased from the Sagalés booth at the Girona airport. The bus goes to Barcelona Nord bus station and the closest metro from there is Arc de Triomf. It is then six stops to Pl. Espanya on line 1 (red) followed by seven stops on line 3 (green) to Zona Universitària. If not arriving on a Ryanair, check to see if the flight coincides with a Barcelona Bus, otherwise it may be necessary to take a train from Girona centre.
- By train: First take a bus (also run by Sagalés) to Girona centre, buses leave at 30 minutes past the hour and take 25 minutes (returning, buses leave on the hour from Girona). Tickets are around €2 single and €4 return. Take a train to Barcelona Sants (depending on the train, it usually takes around 40 minutes). From there, take metro line 3 (green) five stops to Zona Universitària.
The closest metro stop is Zona Universitària, served by line 3 (green) and line 9 Sud (orange). From there it is a few minutes’ walk up Av. Diagonal (just past the Palau de Congressos) and then a left down to the hotel.
