Vichy is a charming Belle-Époque spa town, with a grandeur and nobility remaining from its heyday. The hotel itself is set on the banks of the river, surrounded by parkland. Its impressive Art Deco design uses lots of glass, creating spacious and bright interiors and the panoramic terraces have sweeping views of the river and landscape. The restaurants, which serve delicious yet healthy dishes, spill out into the patio and under the dappled shade of mature trees. There is nothing but the sound of bird song reverberating throughout the grounds. As soon as we arrived and had a welcome drink in the garden, we knew we had come to a special place.
One of the stand-out features of Vichy Spa Hotel Les Célestins is the many different services on offer. Professionals are on hand with a genuinely holistic approach to health and healing. As well as masseurs and fitness trainers, you have nutrition experts, physiotherapists and osteopaths. Though my sister and I were only there for a little 'tune-up', I realised that this place has a much wider scope. Starting the day with a swim surrounded by nature in the outdoor pool, followed by a light breakfast and a stroll around the grounds, we would then simply float between treatments.
It's not all wholesomeness and relaxation though. The jazzy lounge bar has a convivial atmosphere, and with the help of the extensive wine list, is the source of much fun and laughter. Who was it that said laughter is the best medicine?
Meanwhile, our room was decorated in white and shades of blues, and a pastel mural adorned the wall around the beds. This, combined with the view of the trees and grounds from the patio doors, meant the room itself felt like a little haven. It had an understated luxury, and everything felt comfortable and of the highest quality, but in no way ostentatious.
We returned home with a new-found sashay to our step. Vichy Spa Hotel Les Célestins is one of the leading spa resorts in France, and everyone is certain to leave feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.
