When you hear of a resort nicknamed the “Island of the Sun”, you might not think of awe-inspiring mountain ranges, but at every turn, Alpe d'Huez subverts and exceeds expectations. This alpine resort is awash with sunshine and widely recognised as one of the best ski destinations in Europe. It has slopes for every level, a plethora of activities off piste, and traditional mountain villages to explore close to the lively, modern resort. As a winter escape, it’s a gem – and the Daria I Nor is the jewel in the crown.
