L'Hostellerie les Bas-Rupts ★★★★

Gourmet dining in a luxurious Alpine hideaway.

By Amy Turner, VeryChic correspondent
What do you get for the man who has everything? For some years now this has been my constant challenge, turning birthdays and Christmas into a wearing ordeal. I’d ask careful questions, spend hours trawling through shops and magazines, only to end up with some knickknack that never seemed to elicit the response that such a monumental effort deserves. Finally, this year, I hit upon the answer. It’s the ‘things’ that are the problem - we have plenty of ‘things’ to last us both a lifetime. But ‘moments’, on the other hand, are another story. You can never have too many moments of pleasure, too many indulgent experiences. So this year, I swept him away for a moment in the mountains, a retreat replete with opportunities for fine dining and relaxation. You should have seen the smile on his face.
